Our teacher begins with ‘ice-breaking’ exercises that build a sense of trust and relax the children. They then feel less reserved and more willing to throw themselves into the imaginary situations and characters to be developed that week.
Through games and role-play the children explore body language and facial expressions, and the range of emotions that we can convey. They work through mini-skits that allow them to become different animals and personalities.
Using ‘drama classics’ like ‘I Am Walking’, ‘The Mirror Game’ and ‘Freeze’ they learn to put themselves quickly into a new frame of mind and to bring things that they conjur up in their heads out into the open.
The core of the session will revolve around a period of exploration where they ‘Instant Travel’: Stepping through a magical hula-hoop, into a new world every week. They will act out the sights, sounds, smells and experience new adventures!
Our teachers create a very special atmosphere in this class and mime, song, movement all play a part in drawing a range of fascinating new aspects from your child’s personality!
Developing imagination, a sense of the beginning/middle/end of a story, and the creation of characters all play an essential role when children move onto challenging work in English literature studies, and writing, and drama is an excellent tool for letting the creative thought processes flowing!
The children enjoy using a wide range of props and plenty of wonderful music and songs make an appearance too.
