This two months literacy workshop is designed especially for children who are already able to read basic text and are native/fluent English speakers, or have a good grasp of English.
Reading and writing are great skills that open up our world and it is a real joy to watch your child pick up books and develop a passion for reading. Before you know it, they are reading everything around them and can interact in a totally different way.
Content
Our specialist reading teachers look at the naughtiest, trickiest combinations of letters (called the 5 key vowel digraphs) and whip up some magic spells to turn them into friendly little word fairies!
Through drama, stories and explorations into poetry, riddles and rhymes, our teachers will take away the mystery of reading. This course has been successfully proven to build confidence and help our little witches and wizards recognise tricky sounds as soon as they see them!
Our programme supplements the children's reading and gives them a variety of opportunities to recognise, read and write these sounds. We also work on other aspects of literacy such as rhyme and poetry. The 2 month course content includes;

Special 'Spell Books' which will be used for handwriting practice

A secret poem based on the sound of the week

Enjoyable games and activities such as 'Witches Word Cauldron' (this will contain the key words of the week) 'Magic Blackboard' (for some colourful writing practice) and 'Wizard Washing Line' (hanging the new sounds on a washing line to create as many words as they can)

Magical interactive computer games to help them use the sounds properly

Mystical fun with silly rhymes and sentences
This course will help children feel confident in their reading, create a love of literacy, extend their own vocabularies and build imagination.
Each week we cover:

One word ‘family’. These are words that work together

We talk about something called ‘blending’, which is putting letters and sounds together

We reinforce our studies and go over each section at least twice, so that the children gain confidence with their reading and writing skills

We have time for spell books, which are to take home too. We teach the children that they can also draw in their books as inspiration and a reminder of classroom lessons

We learn with unusual visuals, shapes and colours

We build parts of a story together

We have reading and spelling practice in a fun and game-style atmosphere that encourages the children to call out answers and be very enthusiastic about their results
Our approach is fun and customized for each group of children and our teacher learns how to assess how they work best.
Enrolling
You can enroll at any time at all in the term! The class runs beautifully with between 8 and 10 children and we can advise you if we have places.

Create the perfect literacy support package for your child with a combination of classes. Our ‘Reading-Writing Boot Camp’ allows you to design your own choice of sessions from a selection of programmes, and guarantee your child makes huge strides ahead!
Advanced Phonics works hard on the core of phonics learning, whilst Word Wizards/Explorers attack the similar tricky areas that need improvement but with a very different (and fun) themed approach. The Writing Circle course zones in on a different spot that is often neglected, and provides an opportunity to target writing, so that it doesn’t get left behind!
Class times and scheduling allow your child to benefit from a nice mixture of these classes over the term and you are welcome to ‘try before you buy’!

This is a reading/writing support course aimed at children who are junior readers and who speak English natively/fluently, or who are confident English speakers.
